A Financial Crisis Births An Opportunity

In 2008, during the last great financial crisis, CEOs and company founders were calling me frantically as the writing was on the wall - loss of funding, pending layoffs, and company closures. In other words, their heads too were potentially on the chopping block.  

Of course, recruiter opportunities were slim as the global crises grew. I truly felt their pain, as most had families, significant monthly expenses, and people counting on them. Then it dawned on me that no one teaches you how to find your next job.  

At that moment, I realized that looking for a new job is no different than any traditional sales process. I had been the number one salesperson in every role most of my life. I had even generated over $700m (in nominal dollars) of new revenue from “cold calling to collections” in just my early 20s and 30s. So I had a few creative ideas how to help.

I decided to start coaching these amazing leaders in the evenings on a unique approach that combined insider techniques I had observed in the Silicon Valley for decades along with my own personal selling strategies. In 2022, I spent over 400 hours coaching hundreds of tech company leaders, with everyone raving about the experience. 

These sessions, however, were not scalable, as there were thousands of people in transition that also needed help desperately. So Dream Job America was born to make this knowledge available to any type of executive that is searching for that next great opportunity or considering a career change.
